| The Best Way to Save: Pay Yourself First |
| Comment: Yeah, it's a problem...but if we're talking a 40-year time frame, then assuming
7 percent average over that period is probably reasonable. On the other hand,
you probably won't get anything like 7 percent right *now*...so Alex may not
actually come out ahead. |

| 7 Things You Should Always Buy New |
Comment: Why is it that most of folks no problems sleeping on a hotel mattress that's
been used by literally thousands of people, yet assume that a used mattress with
one previous owner is contaminated?
Every apartment I ever lived in had a bed that was left there by the previous
occupant. If there were any bedbugs in the mattress, then they were already in
the apartment, so buying a new one wouldn't have eliminated the risk--indeed, it
would only have exposed the new mattress to contamination.
Some of the ones in the linked article are even weirder, like hats (what, you
never heard of cleaning a hat before wearing it?) and upholstered furniture
(sorry, antique dealers, your wares are too icky). |

| If You Could Travel Back in Time, What Money Advice Would You Give Yourself? |
| Comment: I'd go back to the point when I started college and tell myself to go ahead
and get one of those credit cards that were being touted all over campus for
undergrads. At the time, I thought this was a sucker's deal, but I sure wished I
had taken it when I got out of college and found it nearly impossible to get
started establishing a credit history. At the time, I thought that having the
phone bill in my name and paying it promptly every month would be enough to
establish my creditworthiness, but it didn't help at all. Although I did
eventually get a card by having my dad co-sign with me, I lost four years of
credit history I could have had now. (And knowing myself, I can feel sure that I
wouldn't have abused the card if I'd had one.) |

| 5 Celebs with the Worst Money Problems (Giveaway!) |
| Comment: Having a high income does not actually REQUIRE you to increase your
expenditures to match. Even if you actually can afford the Rolex and the
Maserati, it's perfectly okay to stick with a Timex and a Honda if that's what
you prefer. Really! |

| What Are Your Best Frugal Mother's Day Gift Ideas? |
| Comment: My mom doesn't like cut flowers, but she loves living ones. So when we were
little, my sister and I went with my mom to the nursery every Mother's Day and
bought her impatiens for her garden. These cost as little as a few bucks per
pot. This year I'll carry on the tradition by picking up some flowers at a plant
sale on the 11th, which I can then give to Mom on the 12th. |

| Where Do You Save Your Money? |
| Comment: We have two bank accounts. The money we use on a day-to-day basis is at a local
bank; when the balance in there gets too high, we take a chunk out and put it
toward our mortgage principal. Our emergency fund (the money to see us through a
prolonged financial crisis, like a job loss) is in an online savings account
where it will earn a bit more interest (though it's still not much these days). |

| Uses for Whisks? |

the overhead light in his kitchen. |
