Consider the Floor Models
Comment: Tinktomred - I bought my office chair at Office Environments in Boston. It's a pretty high end showroom in the area. To find a similar store in your area I'd go on the Steelcase website or find another brand you like and find a local showroom or distributor and go check it out.

I went in December, which is probably a slow time of year for them and probably when they are getting new models in, so out with the old. Guessing September they are pretty busy.

Can Buying from Supermarket Bulk Bins Save you a Bundle?
Comment: Great tip--thanks Ray. I have been curious about the cost comparison between bulk and prepackaged food items. It is shocking that 70% of the cost of a food item is for the packaging! That is just crazy, particularly when food prices are sky-rocketing. Glad to see that going green has economical benefits as well.

As you mentioned, buying in bulk is great for items that you only need in small amounts as you pay by the pound. This is particularly useful when stocking your spice cabinet as you can purchase smaller amounts of spices that you use infrequently so your spices stay fresher.

Can You Save $100 by Popping Your own Popcorn?
Comment: Great tip! Not only is popping your own popcorn good for your wallet and good for your health, but it is also good for the planet. By cutting down on the amount of prepackaged foods we consume we are cutting down on the the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. You can find all sorts of great varieties in bulk at your local health food store-cutting down even more on the amount of plastics and preservatives you consume.

How to Save Money on Herbs
Comment: Basil, Rosemary & Thyme are all beautiful herbs that are easy to grow. I just recently planted some basil from seeds and they are growing like crazy. I have also purchased small rosemary, thyme and jalapeno pepper plants and have had great results. So much fresher than what is available in grocery stores, and nothing better than whipping up a pesto with fresh picked basil. Ultimately the herbs you grow depends on your taste preferences. Cilantro and dill are next on my list.

I have had friends grow tomatoes indoors and best ever indoor plant--a lemon tree!

Also, I haven't tried these--but a lot of companies have herb garden kits that are a great way to get started with your indoor garden:

Save With Reusable Tupperware
Comment: I have been using tupperware for years, but I never buy it. Instead, I reuse the plastic containers that I get when I buy take out or containers from the grocery store. I definitely have some favorites and even order take out when I am running low on tupperware. My mom has even started collecting tupperware for me at work after office lunches. I actually like them better than the ones you can buy at the grocery store.

Buy Used Books
Comment: I also have been a big fan of buying used books. For a while, when amazon first got big, I was buying books all of the time, but then realized that I was reading a new book once and then passing it off to friends and the book ultimately ended up at the good will, which got me thinking, why not just buy books straight from the goodwill? Have found that thrift stores offer a great inventory of books--takes some more browsing as not as organized, but still worth it. Got may dad a recently released book that he wanted for $1.00 versus $18 on amazon. And reusing resources, so an added bonus. Now I buy my $1 books at the goodwill, pass them around and then return them to the goodwill when I am finished.

Invest in a Programmable Thermostat
Comment: The programmable thermostat is great!! As a added tip, if I know I am going to be away for a few days I override my settings and set the thermostat to hold at 55 for the time I am away. I don't want to pipes to freeze, but I also don't want to heat an empty house!
