13 Ways to Reduce Your Gas Costs
Comment: I've done all this. The biggest saver is to buy rural gasoline if you can that has less alcohol and fewer additives.

Park in the Shade to Save Money
Comment: This is especially true if you have a flex fuel car and the tank is filled with a lot of alcohol. Better yet, fill up when you leave for a trip. Don't park with a full tank. I always go 100 miles and the gauge does not move from full. The next 200 puts me at 1/4 full. The last 1/4 tank is good for 100 miles. I've had several cars like that. So, it is hard to tell evaporation from a full tank.

Car-Buying Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Comment: My friend printed out an Edmund price list and bought a new van. He thought that his deal was so good, that they had to cut into their hold back (interest they pay to have the car on the lot). I went through it line by line and found that one item listed for $120 from Edmund, but he paid $1,200. That's right, they added a zero. I looked at a car on the lot that was "$1,000 off." The final price was exactly what I had on my on line price list. The difference was that they padded the numbers so they could take off $1,000. It was all in print on the car window. Bring a calculator and check items off the on line price list. Interest free means you pay more for the car. They just don't call it interest. "Added value" or "EDP" or other such term means extra dealer profit on high demand cars. I saw "Added value" of $15,000 on the T-Bird when it came out again in 2003. EVERY dealer pays exactly the same price for a car to keep it a level playing field. The difference is what they will accept for profit. Recently they closed dealerships by refusing to sell them cars. It makes no sense because they are all independently owned. Dealerships close all the time in the best of times with no loss to the car maker. You can find exactly the car you want on line. Then go to the dealership to pick it up. You don't need to be worn down by a salesman. My car is $4K to $7K for trade in and sells for 11K on the lot. I will sell it myself and the buyer and I will still get a better deal.

Gas Station Secrets That Could Save You Money
Comment: I've checked my mileage a number of times on trips of a hundred or so miles. I fill up in the city and then fill up before I return home at a rural gas station. Rural gasoline will ALWAYS give me 20+% better mileage. The dealership explained that city gas contains a lot of additives to cut down on air pollution while rural gasoline meets a different standard. Alcohol has 20% fewer BTUs than gasoline, thus fewer miles per gallon. I have gauge that gives me miles per gallon. It has been as low as 9mpg on city gas in the winter and as high as 32mpg on rural gas in the summer. I've watched it for 9 years and and the results are always nearly the same.

How to Get Errands Done Quickly
Comment: This gives me more hands to carry bags. I buckle an old belt and hang it on my left shoulder over my head so it hangs at my waist on the right side. I made an "S" hook out of 12 inches of rod metal. I hook the "S" hook to the belt that is over my sholder and the bags go on the "S" hook. That leaves my hands free for the railing and using my keys. I also like that I can still see where I am walking as I go up the stairs.

Make Your Own Shoe Insoles
Comment: For pinching leather shoes, pour 70-90% alcohol on them. Wear them on a nice day and they will stretch to fit your feet as they dry. I soak the whole shoe so it dries an even color.

I use Shoe Goo from Walmart at $4 a tube. It is enough to dab the bottom of my shoes so they look like track shoes. I used to use Shoe Goo on worn out Croc's. Now, I use it on new Crocs. When Shoe Goo wears out, I dab on some more. I still have my Crocs for 2 years and counting instead of 3 months. Great for winter traction.

I have one pair I dabbed with Shoe Goo and then stepped in sand. Even better traction on wet ice. Slip them off before going on a good floor or the sand will scratch the floor.

I've noticed no foot discomfort. I've yet to try Shoe Goo on regular shoes, but I see no reason why it would not work.

I wear my Crocs (regular Crocs and not with a fuzzy inside) all year round in Florida summers and Chicago winters when I travel and do not notice any temperature problems with my feet. Maybe it is just me.

Any Tips for Lowering Cable, Internet or Phone Bills?
Comment: To Bob N. above.

I have ATT for phone and DSL. I pay just under $50. My cell phone is pay as you go for $100 for 400 minutes and I can roll them over on the anniversary with another $100.

DVD from the library (free) and redbox (free on Mon.) and a dollar other days.

I buy used TV services on eBay and sell them back as used and the cost is postage ($3 media rate) and $2 listing fee and 3% paypal fee. So, 24 one hour TV shows like "24 hours" cost to me is less than $6 pt 25 cents a show and no late fees possible.

How to Save Money on Cleaning Products
Comment: I actually enjoy cleaning windows because I make remarkable progress and end up with a great job in minutes. For outside, I use a dash of ammonia in a bucket of hot water. Then I use a squeegy with a scrubber attachment and a rag. If you want to learn how, watch a window washer. The ammonia fumes are a bit much inside, so I use a dash of vinegar in a bucket of hot water or any other product I have on hand. Bring plenty of clean rags to pick up the dirty water and get the dust off the sill. I never bother going horizontal on the outside and verticle on the inside to find out which side has a streak. There are none if you use your squeegy and always go from dry to the wet edge.

Re-Freezing Cut-Up Turkey Tips
Comment: By law, chicken can be labeled as fresh when it has been frozen. I believe all super market chicken comes in frozen. That is why you find so man 1/2 frozen chickens.

My vet told me that dogs are not supposed to eat just meat. Makes me wonder what dogs ate in those days before dog food.

Can you Make a $2 Energy Drink for 20 Cents?
Comment: If you need that much caffine, you need to get a better grip on your life.

People that take a nap in the afternoon have 1/3 the heart attacks as those that don't.

Since women joined the work force of men, they seem to have the same health problems that men do.

Read the bios of the very rich, movie stars and others that have accumulated a lot of stuff and what it cost them in terms of their health, family and so forth and judge then if you think it is worth it.

Even if you get rich and can balance that with family, you are still a target for kidnapers and so forth.
