DIY Gift Baskets Are a Great Way to Go
Comment: Actually, I can purchase the stainless steel cookie sheets (restaraunt quality) at my local restaraunt supply house. They are pretty inexpensive. I have given them to my daughter-in-laws because they are fabulous! By the way, the cookie supplies is a great idea. I will probably use it sometime.

Do You Have a Favorite Home Remedy?
Comment: For a persistent cough or croup simply rub Vicks (or generic Vicsks) onto the bottom of your feet. Put on socks and you will be amazed at how it controls your coughing and lets you sleep. Weird, but true.

Frugal Thanksgiving Cooking Tips
Comment: I was going to buy a turkey breast this Thanksgiving as well, but then discovered that it was less expensive to buy a whole turkey because of how much cheaper it was per pound! A turkey breast was just under $2/lb, but the whole turkey was only $0.89/lb at my local grocery store, at least it appeared so to me, the breasts were of the same size. I'll roast the breast for Thanksgiving, use the back-bone and wings for the gravy, which I'll make ahead of time, and the legs will be frozen for a non-holiday meal some time in the future.

Frugal Thanksgiving Cooking Tips
Comment: Got a good deal on a big turkey, but don't want to cook the whole thing at once? You can ask the butcher (or meat department) where you buy it, to saw the frozen bird in half, lengthwise, and repackage it for you. Some may charge a few cents per pound to do this, but it is well worth it for the convenience - and you get two turkey dinner opportunities for the price of one!

LLBean Gift Card Offer
Comment: Good deal about the LL Bean gift card. Last year I was able to do a similar thing with a clearance item after Christmas. I had ordered online, so they sent ME an email notice of clearance sales. I ended up only having to pay the shipping costs on a really nice turtleneck sweater. Thanks for the reminder!

Candy Canes & CDs Gift Idea
Comment: Thank you for sharing this really lovely idea, Gale. I am glad to have the poem also.

We use the "Legend of the Candy Cane" story printed onto small cards, and full-sized candy canes (still wrapped), to decorate the small Christmas tree in the vestibule at church near the reception table by the door. Everyone is welcome to take a candy cane and card home after services as they pass by during the holiday season. It looks really cute and is inexpensive to keep stocked with the "ornaments."

Additionally, I keep a box of the small wrapped candy canes like you mention, in my car so that I can pop a few in my purse to give out while I'm doing holiday shopping and errands. You would be surprised how often an overworked and frazzled store or restaurant employee will smile with amazement when I hand them a candy cane and wish THEM a "Merry Christmas!" No one has ever refused one. It is a cost effective way to spread a little cheer and good will.

Beware When Buying Bikes at Target
Comment: I went to Target today and could not find the bike I wanted with workable brakes. I complained to the manager but he really didn't seem to care.

Check Your Local Library for Museum Tickets
Comment: If you look into buying paper towels etc from a janitorial company, you will be amazed at how very inexpensive they are. You do need to order a large number but if you have storage space for the supplies it saves a great deal of money every year. I buy online and they deliver right to my door at no charge. Check it out!

Fun & Thrifty Decorating Ideas
Comment: Very cute and decoratively effective idea! We have a local restaurant that has been doing this each year with the artwork on their walls and it looks very nice. Different areas of the dining lounge are wrapped in different color themes, i.e. one wall with solid or printed paper in red, another in blue, etc. Lots of possibilities for application in areas of ones home. Thanks!

Comment: I do my shopping the Saturday night before Thanksgiving, and get the largest, cheapest turkey in the store. Veggies are homegrown.

Entertainment Ideas that Save Money
Comment: I have a Hunter Douglas air purifier and found that the filters are expensive and sometimes hard to find. In an emergency I cut up the fabric which is sold for skirts for a Christmas tree. It is a white sort of fuzzy fabric which is very inexpenisive. It worked Great. I have never bought another filter .

Comment: I've noticed some amazingly funky and retro-looking soybean oil cans in the kitchen of our local Chinese restaurant, and plan to acquire one for a country wastebasket.
