Super Cosmetics Deals at The Dollar Tree

Submitted by: SiameseBelle  02/21/2009 2:28 AM

Ladies, if you're a fellow makeup junkie you absolutely must check out the cosmetics aisle at your local Dollar Tree!

I've been shopping our local DT store ever since it first opened in our area (around 10 years or so) and have always been a fan. They sell everything, including grocery items, diapers and all kinds of baby needs, cleaning products, hardware, dishes and housewares, books and magazines, toiletries, toys--you name it. EVERYTHING costs 1.00--that is, unless it costs .50!

Over the past 6 months or so, their cosmetics aisle has really stepped up its game! The stores in my area (there are three) routinely carry Revlon, Almay, Max Factor, Cover Girl, Maybelline, and Bonne Bell items, just to name a few. This week I bought Revlon foundation and lipglosses, Maybelline concealer, Almay lipsticks, and Cover Girl eye liner. The lipgloss had cost nearly 9.00 each at my local drugstore, and the lipsticks had cost around 8.00-9.00 at the same store! The foundation and concealer had each originally cost a mint at that same drugstore as well! At Dollar Tree I bought multiples of each item and now won't have to buy any more makeup for a LONG time!

DT also had wonderful Almay soap for oily complexions (I also saw it in formulations for dry and combination skins as well)--my skin LOVES it, and I bought 7 bars! Now I'll have clear, skin skin for a long time! Most of the complexion soaps and "washes" cost, at the very least, 6.00 or 7.00 at my drugstore!

I live in Alabama, around 1.5 hours from Atlanta--I've seen Dollar Trees in Georgia, and my family at "home" in North Carolina has several up there as well. I am a reformed cosmetic snob (having formerly squandered staggering sums on department-store brands), but for years now I have happily shopped my local discount stores for equally-good, if not even better, products!

Just take care to check the country of origin. Many dollar store items - even for well-known brands like Maybelline and Crest - are actually manufactured in a country with different or lax safety standards.

I've never experienced any problems with any of the items that I've purchased at Dollar Tree. The manager at the location I shop most often told me that their recent cosmetics windfalls have come from US drugstores that have gone out of business. Which countries are we supposed to be wary of?

I too purchase makeup from Dollar Tree. In particular their Aziza mascara and eye shadow. The mascara is the best I've ever used.

I also use baby oil to remove my mascara. Baby shampoo to clean my contact lenses.

Mens socks is also a great bargain. When my husband was living, he'd buy their socks and they lasted longer than the more expensive ones he used to purchas at JC Penney.

I also like buying the shower curtain liners from Dollar Tree. When they tear or start to get mildewed, I put up a new one and keep the old one with painting supplies to use as a drop cloth.

I don't know about your particular store, but I've never encountered ANY "out of date" stuff at the Dollar Trees I've shopped at! I've been to locations in several states and NEVER had any problems. Just because it's in a discount store doesn't mean that it's expired--the manager at my favorite location recently told me that a lot of their cosmetics right now are coming from stores that have gone out of business. Up to you, though, if you'd rather pay full price!

I am not sure about Dollar Tree, but I know that some very reputable companies sell directly to Dollar General. These shipments are the same products that go to Target and Walgreens. So take advantage of the savings!
