Skip the Shaving Cream - Try Soap

Submitted by: Dawn  02/23/2009 12:13 AM

I buy handmade soap from Etsy.com. It's very moisturizing so I also use it for shaving and don't buy shaving creams or gels any more (I'm a girl BTW).

You can also make your own soap if you are industrious. And a couple of added bonuses...I almost never nick myself shaving any more...maybe once or twice a year, AND my razors last much longer!

Also, if you are like me and have highly sensitive skin, you may find your itching and irritation disappears after you ditch all the chemicals found in store-bought soaps. One FYI about handmade soaps...you can't leave them sitting on the shower shelf or they'll melt away in a few days. Remove them from the shower or tub and place on a dry washcloth by your sink. That way a bar will last weeks instead of days.

I love Etsy--great place to get unique and hand made items!! Will have to try out the soap trick.

I have ultra-sensitive, rash-prone skin and can't use soap of any kind--not even oatmeal anymore! I use a little inexpensive conditoner from Dollar Tree instead of shaving creams or gels (I'm a girl, too, BTW). It works well.

I use Alba Botanicals. It's $13 for a tube, but it lasts *forever.* And it's the only stuff my insanely super-sensitive skin can handle. I lucked out big time and found it at a liquidation sale for 97 cents about 5 years ago...I'm still working through the stash I bought back then!

Etsy is a fantastic place, though! I sell dog treats, cards, and bath products there. So much nicer than eBay, and cheaper to sell, too!

I love Alba products. Am so jealous that you found them for 97 cents, what a steal!

I've always used inexpensive hair conditioner instead and it works great!

better than using soap, in place of shaving creme.

Use lotion. whatever hand and body lotion you have, use it in place of shaving creme or gel.

the lotion lubes the razor better than all of the above, and since it has no detergents in it, is easier on your skin.

another lotion application; don't use soap and water or hand cleaners to get dirt and grime off your hands......use hand or body lotion and a dry towel. The chemicals in lotion, will cut dirt and grease from your skin......and the added benefit....is you'll have younger looking hands.
