Stretch Your Makeup Budget

Submitted by: Clover  03/06/2009 1:43 PM

To stretch your makeup budget a bit further try to scale back on the amount of products you buy. You can easily do this by using products that do double duty.

Find a foundation or tinted lotion that will help to even out your skin as well as moisturize. Also, be sure that the product has at least an SPF 15.

Or choose a powder that can be applied wet for foundation and dry as a final cover. The powder should also contain an SPF. Either the liquid foundation or the powder can double as your concealer.

Choose a pencil that will work to both fill in your eyebrows and line your eyes.

For a more natural look, use the same powder as you used for foundation as eye shadow. When applied wet it will go on creamy and dry to give you a long lasting color.

Bronzers and blushes also work well as eye shadow. Using the same bronzer and blush on your eyes and cheeks will give you a healthy glow.

Start by applying a light coat of foundation or powder to your lids. Then apply a light coat of bronzer or blush with a damp makeup brush. You should be set all day.

Another way to get that all over natural glow is to use a cream or gel blush and apply to your lips as well as your cheeks.

Or, use a chubby soft lip lining pencil to color your lips then apply this to you cheeks as well.

A gloss lip balm works well as the top coat to give your lips some shine and moisture too.

For most of these products, a little goes a very long way so they'll not only do double duty but last longer too.

I've also used a smear of lipstick mixed with a little moisturizer as a blush.

I apply my foundation with a slightly damp makeup sponge. It makes my foundation look more natural, not too heavy and it saves on makeup. A little goes a long way.

Not many cosmetics actually do double duty...as in work like they say they do....and sunscreen/moisterizer's can make your skin burn. Same eyeliner as eyebrow pencil?! that would not look good on most people at all..

I love my all in one Laura Mercer SPF 15 Moisturizing Foundation. It protects and moisturizes my skin and is a great base for makeup. 3 products in 1!

clover. I couldn't agree more. the reason there are so many different products out there for your face is just plain marketing. companies know that if they can sell you on a moisturizer, an spf, a foundation, blush, eye shadows etc that they can just plain sell more! I had about 3 diff. concealers, 1 for eyes, 1 for under eyes 1 for face, until I discovered Sonia Kashuks concealer compact (only $9!) from Target it does it all, concealer and powder in one.

It is so easy to fall into the trap of "you need this product and that product" to have a perfect face and then end up with a makeup kit with 50 products. I now keep it simple, a mositurizer/foundation/spf in 1 and the powder/concealer from target. Next I am tryign your blush on the eyelids trick!

Why not just toss the makeup and be your real self? I did it thirty years ago, and at 57, I have nicer skin than most 20 year olds. Plus you wouldn't believe the savings in time and money!!
