Whether you've lost your job or are nervous about losing the one you have, it's nice to know there are a lot of great resources online to help you survive and get back on your feet. Mark Sullivan at PC World compiled a list of 10 websites that are worth checking out. We'd heard of most of them, but there were a few surprises. Here's the short list, but click through to the article to read more, as PC World provides more information about each website.
Quicken Online - We haven't tried the free online application, but we've used Quicken software before and are big fans. LinkedIn - We're familiar with this website. It's a great way to network, and is pretty amazing how quickly you can connect with people from your past, present - and future? SimplyHired - This website aggregates job listings from a number of major job listing websites, though we didn't find Monster, CareerBuilder, or HotJobs in their results, so probably still worth checking the big guys -- and don't forget CraigsList. DesperateDollars - We hadn't come across this website before, but it's worth checking out. You can find lots of creative ways to pull in a few extra bucks. Free Napkin - PC World says "FreeNapkin is like an eBay for free stuff." Uberi.com - This website aggregates deals. Meetup - Helps you set up in-person networking events. SmartyPig - A clever way to get you to save -- particularly for specific goals. Recessionwire.com - Information on all subjects recession. Wise Bread - A great frugal-related website (we're big fans). Source: PC World Unemployed (or Preparing to Be)? These Sites Could Be Your Best Friends Photo credit: webhamster |
