Flavored Coffee on a Dime

Submitted by: anonymous  03/19/2009 3:50 PM

First of all, we perculate our coffee in a vintage perculator, right on the stove top. We always see those antique perculators for sale just for a couple bucks at flea markets and garage sales.

We haven't had to buy a coffee maker in years and years.

Secondly, for a treat, after you put your grounds in the brew basket, sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon of Cinnamon right on the grounds before brewing.
Very yummy without paying for those pricier Flavored Coffees.
Plus there's the added health bonus:
*One teaspoon of Cinnamon has as many antioxidants as 1/2 cup of blueberries!*
Enjoy!

I very much agree with using cinnamon to flavor your brewed coffee. We have been using it for some time, and find that it always tastes great, and makes the house smell so good! Additionally, we sometimes flavor our brewed coffee by putting a few hard candies atop the grounds before brewing. Peppermint is a nice touch at the holidays, or whenever. Butterscotch is good, as is licorice, maple, or chocolate. The possibilities are endless. Whatever suits your taste. Sugarless candies will work as well as regular candies. If putting them in the brew basket is not your thing, try dissolving one right in your cup before drinking. It's a good way to see what flavors you might like in coffee. The fruit one we like is raspberry. We don't add additional sugar to our coffeecup, but you certainly could.

Cinnamon is also supposed to be good for keeping blood sugar at a nice, even level.

I love a bit of cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg to taste.. Put them on the coffee grinds and brew away.

I have a coffee maker that has a grinder built in to it. The night before I put in the beans and to make flavored coffee I add some flavored extract (usually peppermint) in with the beans so it can soak in and in the morning it grinds them up fresh and I have a nice flavored pot of coffee.
