I buy the cheap disposable diapers and use one on the swifter, attaching with their own tabs.

Question: The dollar store has their own brand of "swiffer" refills? What about refilling the bottle? Has anyone tried that? I've thought about just using a spray bottle with vinegar water for my floors. Anyone tried that?

I have refilled the bottle many times. My husband used channel locks (type of plier) and squeezed just below the cap and then we could easily remove the cap. I refill with bleach and water or mr. clean and mop away. I was tired of buying the expensive pads for the wet jet 6.00 for 12 and have read many posts about DIY pads. I decided to buy microclothes from WAGS 2/1.00 and a roll of self adhesive velcro. I attached the velcro around the entire head of the mop and the microcloth adheres to it wonderfully. I dry mop with it, then when done, I mop with it and throw it in the wash! On a funny note, some posts on other sites have suggested using maxi pads with wings. I haven't tried it, but I bet it would work!

I always refill my Swiffer bottles myself. The first time it is a little hard to get the cap off. Take pliers and wrestle the cap off of the bottle. It will come off. Just mix up whatever you prefer to use to mop your floors with, fill the bottle and recap. After this it will be easier to remove the cap (you will still need the pliers, though). Saves a lot of money.

Great tip! I hate buying those pricey bottles of cleaner, but would never go back to a sponge mop. Thanks!

I bought reusable pads on ebay that someone else made. They work great and I've used them for several years. I tried to refill the bottle but I couldn't get it open. I'll have to try again.

I fill my bottle on Swifter with plain tap water. In a separate spray bottle, I mix 1 part lemon Pine-Sol with 3 parts water. I spray section of floor I want to clean, then rinse and mop with Swifter. Leaves floor clean and also refreshes the room with a wonderful, clean fragrance.

What a smart idea! I love the swiffer but it's such a rip off. I feel like I fly through those replacement pads.

I also use a Swifter mop and cringe when I have to buy new refills or cleaning solution.
Today on an HGTV show I learned that you can use a solution of warm water and Apple Cider Vinegar for cleaning hardwood floors. So I tried it out and am happy to say that it worked
beautifully! The floors are truly 'gleaming'.
I did use my swifter mop and used half water half apple cider vinegar, although I'm not sure what the ratio of water to vinegar was on the show.

I use my Swiffer with reusable pads, and I pried open the Swiffer bottle and have been re-using it for a couple of years now. I mix only about 1/2 cup vinegar, then fill with water (not 1:1 as mentioned above). My floor refinisher guy said it's very important to keep wood floors dry, so I use as little spray as possible (and the Swiffer bottle does a great job of just delivering a very fine mist, but it has become a little stiff, not a big deal yet and probably keeps me from using too much liquid anyway). I never, ever use a sponge mop like I used to after talking with the floor refinisher man.

I use vinegar on my floors. I have a very good nose and can smell the vinerger for about 5 min.. It absorbs smells...and after that NO stink. I've had a lot of people say how nice my house smells which is funny because when you go to your friends how often do you say how nice it smells...
