Although Time Warner NY doesn't promote it you can get basic cable for under 17.00 a month. You get all the locals and a few cable channels and no equipment rental fees.

We did that to save money, and we thought it was great... However, we were atually paying $17 for fewer channels than we get, now, with a converter box and an antenna...

Not sure about the $17 a month cable from TimeWarner...I just clicked on that link and it advertises 12 months service for almost $50!!! Quite a difference there!
