How to Save Money With a Heat Pump

Submitted by: anonymous  03/23/2009 6:35 PM

My local energy company provided me with this tip for saving money on heating my home. If you have a heat pump, they suggest that you use a programmable thermostat to change your settings. If you change the setting of the heat pump manually, it will cause the emergency heat to go on, which I guess is more expensive.

They also say to keep the outside unit free from any debris that may have fallen in/gotten in, such as leaves, twigs, snow, etc.

I agree. I like to rip my unit apart every spring. I pull the fan out and wash the coil from the inside.
