Book/CD/DVD Swapping Sites

The following sites make book and dvd swapping easy. For most, you just pay for shipping, so you can get newer titles for a fraction of retail prices. To use these sites you have to become a member, but currently membership is free.

Bookins.com - on this site you can trade books and dvds. You pay a flat rate of $4.49 for shipping, and then you are the owner of the book and can keep it as long as you like or trade it to someone else, in which case they would pay for shipping. The site definitely tries to make the process as easy and hassle free as possible. Seems to be a good place to get rid of unwanted books (am testing it out right now!)

PaperBackSwap.com - they also have sister sites where you can swap cds and swap dvds. A points based site, for each 10 books you list you get 2 points, you can use these points to swap for other books. 1 credit per book. So, it seems that you've got to have a 10 book inventory to get started, but then can just continue to swap books, 1 for 1. The books you receive are free and yours to keep, except you pay to send books to others and they to you.

Bookmooch.com - also a points based site, where you get points based on your trades and you only pay for the shipping fees of sending your books to other users. You also need a 10 book base to get started. You earn points every time you ship a book to someone else.

Swaptree.com - trade books, dvds, video games or music, where you list the books, CDs, DVDs, and/or video games you have, then just swap your items through the mail. This site one ups the others by cutting the postage cost--just ship via 'media mail' and you'll pay less than $2.50 in shipping costs. An additional green twist, swaptree will try to set up a local swap, so you don't have to pay for postage at all.

Other book swapping sites to try: NovelAction.com, ReadersUnited.com and TitleTrader.com

I have been using paperbackswap and really enjoy it. I don't believe you must have 10 books to start (that is only to earn a free book choice), you just won't earn a free book until one of yours is chosen and received by someone.

They also use media mail rates unless it weighs less and would be cheaper to send first class. I have been very impressed with the service.

After several moves, I became weary of hauling around my large collection of books, cd's and dvd's. I have been selling them on Amazon, which is great. I'm earning $ and also cleaning out my shelves and closets. Simplifying.

i use paperbackswap along with the two sister sited swapacd and swapadvd. they are fantastic. i have tried several others in the past, and this is by far the easiest site to use.

everything is a flat 1 book/cd/dvd for 1 credit. you just pay to ship it out. and media mail can be used to make it cheaper.
