Plan Ahead For Deals on Kids Clothing

Submitted by: anonymous  03/30/2009 9:30 PM

My kids are average size and it has been pretty easy to guess what size they will be during the next seasons. I plan ahead and buy clothes for the next year at the end of the season when everything is on great sales or clearance. My kids have always worn name brand clothing that is in style, but I have never payed full price for any of it. I can usually buy an entire seasons wardrobe for both of my children for around $50 to $75, and this is buying them more than they actually need.

Also, Old Navy is running a weekly promotion "game" at oldnavyweekly.com. There have been several great coupons available, and rumor is there are more to come. I got one coupon that was $50 off a $100 purchase. On top of the great sales at the time, I made out fantastic on this shopping trip. We are set for summer.

In early spring my stock of nice school blue jeans is often running low, holes in knees or out grown. I usualy don't replace them until late september. We get by with shorts, skorts, and more frequent washing. This way I have fewer out grown pieces that are still good.

I do the same thing with sneakers in the spring. My kids are usually in sandles or bare foot in the summer. Usually I have to fight them to put sneakers on in hot weather. By the end of september much of the back to school stuff is at very good prices.

In our area, the church preschools have consignment sales each Spring and Fall. These are great sources for baby through preschool size clothing. Sometimes I can find items for my older daughter (8), but rarely for my 10 year old son. For them, the best bet is buying stuff at the end of the season, or a couple of months after stuff has been on sale. I find that Old Navy and Gymboree have the best sales, within the actual season that the clothes are being worn. It also saves money to spend a couple of dollars more on quality items, rather than replacing an item of inferior quality after it falls apart.
