Instead of dining out we now meet friends who are on a budget as well just for cocktails, after we have had dinner at home. Many restaurants have happy hour prices and offer half off appetizers early in the evening and this is an option as well.

This is a great tip! Along this same line of thinking, we recently joined friends for coffee and dessert, after they finished their dinner at the locally historic and VERY expensive restaurant they had chosen. It was a very special occasion for them, and we were able to share part of their evening, enjoy the lovely historic ambiance, and keep our expense affordable and within our budget.

A Lot of places have happy hour and they do allow kids a the bar area, I work at El Torito Rest is amazing how many families come w/ their kids to have happy hour appetizer 1/2 price off instead of going the dining area where they are going to pay full price for it. that's a great way to save money..
