Save Water, Save Money

Submitted by: anonymous  05/25/2008 11:20 AM

1)Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth.
2)Don't water your lawn--resist!! Invest in a hearty grass seed that can withstand your climate. Native plants require less watering than exotics as they have evolved to survive their native climate. For example--if you live in Arizona--forgo the lawn and opt for dessert plants.
3)Don't water your driveway. Honestly, I have seen people do this and is just an absolute waste of water. Let the rain handle that. If you must water your lawn and driveway--invest in a Rain Barrel to collect water to reuse.

i have VERY long hair.it comes down just above my knees and it means alot of water use.
so i wouldn't waste water and still have super clean hair i fill a little sink tub(sold at walmart for just under 2 bucks) and washed my hair in that, using a very large tumbler to pour water over my head.
your head is not under the running water all the time in the shower.when your shampooing your hair or letting the conditioner sit in your hair for a few minutes, water is being wasted.
in the sink you dont have running water while you are working the shampoo/conditioner in.

heres another water tip! we ususally wash our faces in the shower.but when your doing that, yeah, lots of water is being used.i think nearly a galllon or more is used washing our face in the shower.
so to save water and money, wash your face in the sink just before getting into the shower using a little bowl.when your done empty the water in the shower.have the drain plugged to use the water to flush the toilet along with the shower water.

when doing the dishes alot of water is wasted by having the water running constantly.gallons are wasted every time you do the dishes this way.using the dishwasher is also a waste in my humble opinion.
so i bought a sink tub(sold at wal-mart for just under 2 bucks) and fill it with just enough water to fully submurge a plate.
fill with hot water and dishwashing liquid and dip all the dirty dishes in one at a time and then set them on the counter on a towel, newspaper, plastic.since you dipped them they will soften the stuff stuck to your dishes and start to break down the grease.
after about 5 minutes put one by one back into the water and starting washing them.
put the dishes that need to be rinsed in another sink tub with water to rinse.
saves alot of water and saves money.
