Extend the Life of Outdoor Furniture

Submitted by: anonymous  04/05/2009 7:54 PM

I have an outdoor table and chair set that I paid around $400.00 for. Every year I use a wire brush on any spots that are beginning to rust. I then spray them with a $2.00 can of metal spray paint from Walmart. After ten years they look brand new.

I have smooth white plastic outdoor furniture. I clean it up baking soda or other cleaner. Then I wax it with "Bug and Tar Remover" from Turtle wax. It does not do a good job on bugs and tar, but it does seem to lift the little grime left over and makes for a fast wax job. It would also seem that the white plastic furniture stays cleaner over the winter when it is not covered, so there is less cleaning necessary. Anything outside with paint I wax. Therefore the water does not gather and there are fewer water stains and rust.
