Too Many Toys

Submitted by: anonymous  04/06/2009 12:38 AM

Most kids have more toys than they need. How many parents are frustrated by the amount of toys that have taken over their houses? Who sold us this bill of goods? We're really only teaching our kids about excess.

It's an old thought, but our time and attention is so much more meaningful. When they have too much they don't even value it. Today we are all getting back to basics. We have over indulged, over spent and many of us are in trouble.

Let's not pass that on to the kiddos.

We decided that there were just too many stuffed animals at our house. I threw them all in the washing machine and cleaned them up. We then packaged them in Gallon size baggies and took them to the police station.

The police officers were delighted to have them. They are able to give the stuffed animals to kids in traumatic situations like a car wreck or watching their parents be arrested.

The officers are able to throw them in the trunk and the plastic bags keep them clean. I took the time to explain to my kids exactly what we were doing and why. They were happy to be helping out and felt good about themselves for doing service. It was also nice to get the stuffed toys out of my house and not have to be picking them up off the floor all the time.

Debbie I love your idea. My kids are little, but I think that we will do this every year before Christmas because it will "help clear out the house".
