Inexpensive Conditioner as Shaving Cream

Submitted by: anonymous  04/06/2009 11:39 AM

This is a good tip for women. Try using inexpensive hair conditioner instead of shaving cream. A little is all you need. It does essentially the same job of softening the hair. And there's one less item to clutter the tub or shower area.

This tip works great!
In the shower, if you turn off the water during the shaving process, you will use less conditioner and save on water, as well.

okay so this is my only problem. I want to turn the shower off to shave my legs to save water, but we keep the temp in our house so low that I get goose bumps and can't shave. and I don't want to put a space heater in the bathroom.....what do I do?

I used to shave while I let my conditioner 'set' so felt I wasn't wasting that much water. My mom used to turn the water off while she shampooed and conditioned her hair to save even more water.

Dear Goose-bumped,
I, too, dread being wet and cold. Perhaps you could try one, or a combination of these ideas. See what works for you.
1. Shower when the house in general is warmer if you can.
2. Heat up the bathroom prior to your shower and then remove the space heater. Proceed with shower quickly.
3. Be sure the shower curtain is the right size and is closed properly to help keep the warmth and humidity around you.
4. If there is an exhaust fan in your bathroom, don't run it until you are done and dry. Who needs a breeze when you're cold?
5. If your shower is also a bathtub, try closing the drain until you are done, so that you are standing in warm water, which will keep your feet warm and may help you to feel warmer in general. Feet and tub can be rinsed when done. Just be sure to stand on a nonskid surface.
6. Use a hand-held shower head attachment. That way you could keep the water running slightly for warmth while shaving, but not rinse off the shave lotion until afterward. Personally, we think the hand-held shower head, helps us use less water in general.
7. If you wash your hair in the shower, don't get your head wet until after you shave. Evaporation from wet hair can make you feel colder.
8. Shave beforehand at the bathroom sink, exposing only the area being shaved at the moment. Keep the rest of you covered for warmth. This worked for me while at camp.
9. Don't actually shave. Use a hair remover cream beforehand, or try one of those new items that buff away the hair. (Or perhaps an electric razor.) Personal preference. Maybe you could find a big coupon to use if you want to give it a try.
10. If all else fails, whistle or sing to take your mind off how cold you are, and take advantage of those goosebumps that raise the hairs. You may actually get a closer shave and have to shave a little less often! Wooohooo!

Hey, we all have to choose our battles, even in the little things in life, and a lady's toilette after all is her own business.

A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. Good luck and I hope this dilemma is only a seasonal one for you.
