DIY All-Purpose Kitchen Cleaner

Submitted by: angelsong  04/06/2009 11:43 AM

Save money on cleaners: Make your own!

I have saved a lot of money by making my own cleaners. I use borax, baking soda, vinegar and Dawn dishwashing liquid, plus water. I dissolve 1/4 cup of borax and baking soda in 1 cup of hot water, add 1 cup vinegar and a few teaspoons of Dawn. I put this into spray bottles, and add water to fill the bottle if necessary. I omit the vinegar in one spray bottle so I can use it to clean ceramic tile countertops.

This solution can be modified as needed by adding a little more or less of the ingredients. It is an all purpose cleaner, and works very well in kitchen, bathroom, and other areas. It even cleans burned on black stains off the stovetop without scratching.

I tried... sounds good but clogged up my spray bottle. The borax and baking soda are too thick for my bottle. I shook it up and everything. :(

It clogged up my spray bottle, but I just shake it up and apply it with a rag to the surface. Good cleaner, but leaves a residue. Don't use on shiny surfaces unless you plan on rinsing it off or it will look dull.

Dawn dishwashing soap is highly toxic. Just FYI if you are washing dishes you eat off of with it. Castille soap would be a great replacement for the soap in this recipe and would make it toxin free.

50/50 ratio of vinegar and water works REALLY well for mopping and all purpose cleaning.

Just use 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water. Works fine!
