Polish Leather Shoes to Get More Wear

Submitted by: anonymous  04/06/2009 2:04 PM

Polishing leather shoes on a regular basis helps keep them in good shape, not mention looking good. I have washed leather sneakers in my washing machine when they were really on their way out anyways and had good luck.

Use a little mink oil, and give your leather goods a good rubbing down with it with a soft cloth. Keep some shoe polishes/rags/buffing brushes in a shoe box - at least black, brown, tan, maybe some neutral.

While you're watching a fave tv show, break out some of your sorry looking shoes, boots, purses, belts, etc. - give them a once over with the mink oil, then take a damp rag and rub a little polish on it, then work that into the leather. Next, buff with a brush (don't use a brush that's been used on black shoes on tan shoes, etc., because it'll show - keep one specific brush for each color). You'll be amazed at how good your leather things will look with just a bit of TLC.

Finally, give your shiny leather items a good spraying with a leather protectant spray to keep them resistant to water damage and stains. Your things will look great for years to come.

I'm a vet, and trust me, we learned how to keep our leather shoes & boots looking good, or else!
