Phone Savings with Magic Jack

we bought magic jack for 40.00 and it plugs into your computer it gets you free long distance and local service. you pay 20.00 per year afterward.

Some people have had problems, but we haven't it works great. We have cable internet and our computer is not the newest.

we have a cell phone through our daughters plan for 10.00 a month which we use only to call our children, and keep magic jack as a home phone so our phone cost is minimal.

I have the MagicJack too and so far it works great! Couldn't off my phone company entirely because I still needed the line for the computer but now what I pay them is minimal compared to what it used to be, so it is a win-win situation. Thanks MagicJack!

I thought about signing up, but noticed in the small print that ads will appear on your computer. Is this the case? I cannot stand not being able to escape the constant barrage of advertisements that exist everywhere. To what degree do they market to you once you sign up for their service?

I have Magic Jack. The problems I have had are that our internet goes off/on here in my area..then I have no phone. The quality of the service is also determined by how good the phone you use is. We have a tendancy to use a cheap phone then it's not as good. But I have recommended it to alot of people. Cost for local and long distance is $20 a YEAR!!! There is no substitute for that. I have my other phone as well...but in emergencies I have kept this and use it quite often.

I have a Magic Jack and it gives me a sense of security. That I would not have other wise. We also have some extra ringing when some one calls like it gets stuck. but other than than we really like it.

911 service does not work well with this in all areas. also voip and cell phones will also not work well. the calls to 911 go to a central call center in each area, maybe not even in your state. this can cost you valuable time in an emergency.

attn: ray, all you have to do is call your local police station and find out what the direct emergency number is, then program that number as your 9-1-1- number in your cell phone. I have my emergencey number programmed so that when I hold down the number '9' it calls my local 911 dispatcher. so I finally gave up my landline!

magic jack, built in wifi, laptop... i just went from east coast to west coast and back, and had internet, MJ free phone, movies and music on laptop... it rocked.. all for FREE.....

I got two Magic Jacks a year ago, and the first one kept not working right. Customer service is just a useless automated computer program. Installed the second one and after a week it messed up the same way. RIP OFF.

I tried it and it worked well, the only problem I had was it kept commeing out of the computer everytime it was bumped and then you had to reset every time.... Maybe now they fit better into the side of the computer, can't beat the price though..... Maybe I should have duct taped it....LOL

Rita: If you want to make the Magicjack work better, Try installing it on a USB port "Behind" the computer and using a cordless phone system in it. I hooked up my base station to it and never have come close to pulling it out of the computer. It works great and saves me a ton of money over using a landline. Also, FYI, take it on trips out of the country and use it to call back to the states for free. Anywhere there is WIFI available will do.

I purchased the magic jack specifically because I rent a house and did not want the phones going thru the phone line here because they are crap! I have never beed so happy. The only problem I have had is it is not reccomended for faxing but I do fax with it. Occassionally have to fax twice but for the proce I can't beat it.
