Looking for Lower Health Insurance Rates

Submitted by: anonymous  04/13/2009 9:30 PM

I was recently laid off and even COBRA is too expensive right now. Carmen Wong Ulrich recommended looking for deals on ehealthinsurance.com but they don't offer that in MA. Still looking for lower rates, but thought ehealthinsurance.com might be helpful for people in states where it is offered.

I've never checked out ehealthinsurance before but I will keep it in mind. Our insurance premiums when I left my job were a nightmare. It did lead me to find a new job quickly so I didn't have to deal with the costs.

AARP SUPPLEMENTAL /BE ALERT TO THIS!!!!!!!!!

AARP told me I could stop my ins. supplemental policy for Medicare coverage and then return to it without penalty or problem.

They gave a one month time line to pick it up again without any paperwork at all.

NOT SO. I emailed them at the end of the month to pick it up again. I did so a few times. NO responed from AARP/Health.

I called and they said "oh we did not get an email-- you have to reapply again from scratch.

I did so. Now I have a letter that I have no coverage for any "preexisting" illness (defined by AAPR)as anything my dr has even mentioned "ANYTHING FOR WHICH MEDICAL ADVICE WAS GIVEN) for the next three months. So I have lost 4 months of coverage for cnx for a few weeks when they told me it is "no problem" .

I am, most likely, going with a different company for supplemental now as I do not feel I was accurately informed of their policy . Also, I feel that my email communications to restart my supplemental policy on the first of the month were ignored purposefully.

I could file a complaint with the state insurancve commission but that is must more time and trouble at this point.

I hope this info helps some other senior citizn on Medicare..

UNITED HEALTH AND are very kind and reassuring when you ask about cnx but the penalities seem severe to pick it up again. They have lost my good will as I feel there was not good faith in their actions.
