Making the Most of Newborn Baby Hospital Supplies

Submitted by: Debbie  04/16/2009 5:06 PM

Having a new baby? Turn hospital necessities into home necessities.

When I had my babies, I found it very helpful to take home everything I could from my hospital stay. My nurse told me that they charge you for it all and just throw it away anyway (even the box of tissues - what a waste).

The best thing I brought home was the gauzy underwear. If you make one snip at the crotch it turns into a tube top that is perfect for keeping those breast pads in place at night without having to wear a bra to bed.

I also used the blue pads that soak up liquid. I saved them until potty training time and they worked great on the kids' beds.

I use the blue chucks pads for at home or in the car when the baby has a blowout & gets poop everywear. they are also nice for sponge baths b4 their umbillical cord falls off.

I asked the nurse if they had a breast pump to help encourage my milk to come in. She went to the NICU and came back with a box containing a brand new hand pump and a 10 pack of storage bottles!

The pink water/juice pitcher was great for keeping up my fluid intake once I got home. I used the peri-bottle (actually I made off with two per baby born) filled with warm water for rinsing newborns in the bath and wetting washcloths for cloth diaper changes.
