Cheap Alternative to a Fax Machine

Submitted by:  05/05/2008 12:10 PM

Don't buy a fax machine. They are unnecessary these days. All you need is a scanner (or a printer and scanner). You can use a service like efax.com, which is very inexpensive (even free, depending on the services you need). Plus you save money not buying a fax machine.

That's what we did. we scan everything and convert it to a pdf and email. Makes life so much easier not having to bother with a fax, and less paper waste!

I've been doing this for over 10 years. A scanner is a great thing to have for your computer. It has so many uses. Having a scanner and printer is also a reasonably good copier too.

Another item to add to the setup would be an inexpensive fax/modem card. I got mine for $12.00. It lets you send faxes without having to use a service like e-fax. Many businesses don't accept e-mail attachments for fear of getting a virus. Many times, the only way to send a document is via a fax.
