Very Low-Priced Tires at Salvage Yards

Submitted by: Brandt  04/23/2009 3:50 PM

Nearly new tires may sometimes be found at local salvage yards. Many nearly new wrecked cars have perfectly good tires that can be purchased at a fraction of the usual cost.

Of course they should be inspected to be sure that they are in good condition.

I bought my last set of tires used on Ebay. They were Michelin's with about 85% tread life left. Including the cost of the tires, shipping and installation, still got them about 50% below the Costco dicount price for new tires.

Craigslist.com is also a great resource for deals on tires. A fair number of people upgrade their factory wheels and tires for custom rims with new tires.

The bonus in buying them this way is that many times, the rims are already on. Now you can install them yourself.
