Clothing at Thrift Stores

Submitted by: Deborah  04/29/2009 2:06 PM

Never underestimate your local resale shops, especially the non-profit ones.

When I worked in an office, I frequently shopped at a local church resale shop for suits. I found name brand suits for as little as 25.00. Your local Goodwill, Salvation Army stores are also good sources for gently used clothing.

When my kids were small, I bought all their play clothes at resale shops, because they were going to get ruined and I could'nt stand to pay full price for clothes that were just going to end up muddy and torn.

Stay away from privately owned resale shops as they need to make a profit for themselves and money for the owners.

I get a large majority of my kids clothing at Goodwill, yard sales, or will even shop department stores but the rack has to be deeply discounted :) When entering department stores, I always scan the back walls for the clearance racks. Sometimes you can hit a clearance sale up to 95% off the retail! Most items I can find at Goodwill, and the one we frequently shop at is near a very nice neighborhood (large, expensive homes) and the clothing is very nice! When my kids outgrow them, we either sell them on E-bay (sometimes for more than we paid for them) or give them away~

I have not bought clothes anywhere except Goodwill for five years now. About 60% of what I buy still has tags on it. I get suits, jeans, casual, and even formal evening gowns and dresses for the ballet and opera. Most everything is designer label - Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang, Liz Claiborne, Guess, LL Bean Casuals - I love going through the racks of clothes to find what I need.
