We've used cloth napkins in our house forever. These are a mismatched collection that I have picked up at yard sales. Cloth napkins can be used several times before they need to be washed. To keep used napkins straight, every family member has his own napkin ring. These too are mismatched... one-of-a-kinds found at yard sales. We collect these up after meals and keep them in a basket in the dining room.
Over time some rings have been replaced as we found ones that were unique to family members, often reflecting a hobby or color preference. In addition, regular guests in our home, such as boyfriends, have also been assigned rings... it's a way of welcoming them into our family. One boyfriend, now fiance, brought his own... a vintage wooden ring in the shape of a funny fat man. He was very proud of this, as he found in a junk flea market for less than a dollar. |
