I keep an spreadsheet of all the repairs I've had done on my car, from new tires to oil changes. I include the date, where I had the work done and the cost.
I do this for a few of reasons:
1) if I ever want to sell my car, I'll have a nice detailed record of repairs and general upkeep so that the potential buyer knows that the car was well cared for and has a repair history.
2) I know exactly how much I've put into the car over time, so it will be easier to quantify when it is time to let the car go instead of investing in more repairs.
3) I have a better sense of the overall cost of keeping a car on the road.
