| Ebay for Replacement Parts |

For the last 30 years I've done all my sewing on a black 1950s small portable Singer. I originally bought this "Featherweight 221" for $50. It is now collectible and worth over $200. (I always chuckle to think back to a guy I was dating at the time. He thought this was stupid buy, as a new one would last longer.)
This past winter, as I was sewing, my office chair became tangled in the machine's cord, and I accidentally pulled the machine off the table, and it crashed to the floor. I broke off a piece of bobbin winder, a black metal part that flips down. I was heart sick. But then I noticed this broken part was attached with a screw. So I felt there was a small ray of hope I could restore my machine if I could find this obscure part. I thought about calling an area store that repairs machines, but also charges an arm or leg... even then it was a long shot.
I decided to check ebay. Yippee! There were half a dozen auctions for the exact part I needed. The sale price ranged from $10 to $20. I bid on several auctions until I got one for $10, plus about $1.50 in shipping. It was simple to replace the part on my own.
So check on ebay for replacement parts, you just never know what you'll find there. |
