Whether you've lost your job, live in a remote location without many job opportunities, or are just looking for a little extra income on top of whatever else it is you do, there are lots of jobs to be had. In an article posted on womansday.com, the co-author of a book titled "Will Work from Home", suggests 10 types of jobs you can seek out that allow you to work from home. We've provided a brief summary below, but be sure to click through to the article for more information about each job (10 Smart Ways to Make Money from Home):

1. At-home Customer Service Rep - We've heard that a number of companies allow their customer service reps to work from home (JetBlue, for example). Woman's Day suggests one site that can help.

2. Remote IT Professional - You must be somewhat tech savvy, but if you are, you can help people having computer problems.

3. Hawk Your Handmade Wares Via a Virtual Shop - Explains how you can set up your own storefront on eBay to sell your wares.

4. De-Clutterer - Explains how, if you're organized, you can help friends and neighbors de-clutter, then sell what they don't want and take a share of the profit.

5. Virtual Office Coordinator - Explains how you can put your office management/office coordinator skills to work.

6. Wordsmith - If you have a way with words, you might be able to find work as a writer or editor.

7. Virtual Assistant - Kind of like a personal assistant, except you're working remotely.

8. Home-Based Concierge - If you've got a travel and/or hospitality background, you could qualify for jobs in this area.

9. Virtual Tutor - If you've got a college degree, you might be able to work as a tutor for 5-30 hours per week (apparently, no teaching degree is necessary).

10. Direct Sales - For the ultimate people-person.

A way to make money from home (tho you will have to pay some of it back) is if your not working and you want to in the future, sign up for online college and apply for all the free grants and scholarships you can, then the rest will be loans. Whatever is not spent on college gets kicked back to you in the form of a refund check each semester, I have had checks as high as $1600 per semester, and my friends get as much as $2500. I will graduate out with a bachelors in Health information technology so I can get a job as a billing and coder, once employed I will go back to school for a masters in physcology....which is the career I really really want. I go to a year round online highly accredited college so I will graduate quicker(though it is a bit more stressful)

so make money from home, go to college and get a refund check 4 times a year. Thats a great way to spend your time if your a Stay at home mom or Dad.....or a high school student who is about to graduate and can still live at home, you could just go to school full time and do this or you could add workstudy out at the college to this as well, and get paid like $7-$9 an hour, though you might only get like 20 hours a week, that in itself is great experience and looks great on your resume.

I have been in school nearly a year, i'm on the deans list every semester and not a dime comes out of my pocket right now other than school supplies and a few software packages that are severly discounted. though some of this will have to be repaid, the investment I am making in my future/our future is priceless. I can go online any day or anytime to do my work and read my chapters, I can stay home with the kids, which eliminates the need for daycare...and I can cook and clean which takes a great deal of stress off of my overworked husband. I used to work 60 hours a week just like him, but I made significantly less than he did and 95% of my check went to daycare and gas........... which really seemed pointless after awhile. This way I can elliminate daycare, help support my husband with his career and take the stress off him while working on a degree at the same time and get a few bucks here and there. then by the time I graduate my girls won't really need daycare and the job market will be much better than it is now. Plus the insurance benefits for my field are killer! once i am employed in my field of choice, the combination of benefits insurance wise and our estimated combined pay scales will be significant. Now this isn't without sacrifice. Sometimes I clean, cook and watch girls all day only to stay up a few hours when everyones in bed to work on college. Sometimes I feel like I never get a break. But the benefits my family and I reap from this now and in the future are enormous. My childrens grades have improved, my husbands stress has reduced significantly and since i'm home to cook more we have all lost weight, our cholesterol and sodium has gone down to....

Now i'm not saying if your a wife you should sacrifice your job or run yourself ragged, you can go part time to. I'm just saying if your home anyway....you could get an education plus get a few bucks, work a few hours as workstudy and get a few more bucks and still be home with your kids. Daycare is expensive especially with two or more kids. Why work for nothing when you can make your time actually mean something. but online college takes discipline and if you don't have it and your not organized don't even bother. if you lack organization and discipline than go to college onsite instead. You can still reap the same benefits but you wont have the ease of getting online whenever you want 24x7 which is the whole reason why I chose online college. Just make sure its regionally accredited. If you don't pick a regionally accredited school you might end up having a worthless degree.

Hope this helps.

I haven't had luck with etsy. I've posted my best stuff, and it hasn't sold. Ah well. Such is life.

Another flexible type of work is mystery shopping. I've been with a couple companies that have paid me. Email me if interested. meyermv(at)gmail(dot)com
