| Coil Stove Saves on Cooking Costs |

We use a coil stove, and this is what I do to minimize the electricity used for cooking.
When the food is almost done, I turn off the stove, cover the vessel with a lid and leave the vessel on the coil. Covering retains the heat and helps the food to cook faster, and coil stoves continue to release heat even after they are switched off, so the food continues to cook with no power.
Also, in our rental apartment, the stove is adjacent to the fridge, and cooking on the stove near the fridge makes the side of the fridge heats up so much, that it raises the temperature inside the fridge and could spoil the food. Hence we use the coil farthest from the fridge, unless we are cooking with the lid on, or if in a pressure cooker. The kitchen exhaust fan is always on when cooking, to pull away heated air. |
