| Shoe Deals on Ebay |

I’m a creature of habit. Once I find a shoe that I like, I try to stick with it, buying the newest version of the same shoe when the old pair of shoes need to be retired. This makes it pretty easy to shop for shoes, as all I need to do is search for the company offering the best deal. Ebay comes in handy here. It’s amazing how much shoe inventory in my foot size is available at any given time – even in the particular model and style I’m looking for. Often times you can find great deals (more than 50% off) just by buying them on eBay. I read a statistic somewhere recently that said that there are over 150,000 shoes for sale on eBay at any given point in time.
Some shoes are sold by individuals who bought a pair only to realize that they don’t need them or want them but for whatever reason can’t return them and are in great shape and have never been worn. And what you’ll frequently find are sellers that sell shoes via eBay on a regular basis (and offer several shoes for sale at any given point in time) as a business (though I’m not sure how they get their inventory but somehow they must be getting them below retail price).
Shoes are usually listed with “new” in the headline. Occasionally, you’ll see shoes listed as “lightly used” or similar language. I’m not a big fan of used shoes ;-) so I don’t buy those. As always with eBay, be careful and if the seller doesn’t feel right to you or doesn’t have a lot of history and ratings/reviews, stay away – even if it’s a great deal. There will be others.
Also, look for the return policy on the auction listing page for the shoe. You have to scroll down a bit to find it, but you should see a section with the header “Return Policy” with information below it. It should say what the return policy is (“Item must be returned within: 14 Days” and “Refund will be given as: Money Back” or “Return policy details: All sales are final. No returns.”). Even though I usually know exactly what shoe I want, I like the security of knowing that they have a return policy if for whatever reason the shoes don’t turn out to be the right fit. And I’ve heard of some people getting “fakes” – shoes that look roughly like the real thing but aren’t. They can steal photos from other sites of the real thing so it looks legitimate in the picture. (Some shoe brands are more likely to be “faked” than others, given their popularity. As an example, this article talks about problems with Nike fakes: http://reviews.ebay.com/HOW-TO-SPOTTING-FAKE-NIKE-SHOES-ON-EBAY_W0QQugidZ10000000001615949?ssPageName=BUYGD:CAT:-1:SIMILAR:3 .) Just make sure that the seller looks legitimate and that they have a return policy.
Oh, and one last thing, if you’re new to eBay, look into paying via PayPal. It just adds an extra level of protection. And never pay for your shoes using instant cash or a wire transfer service.
There are obviously a lot of caveats and warnings about buying through eBay, but these aren’t meant to scare you off. My experiences with eBay have been positive overall an I will continue to use them. I just want to make sure you’re aware of what to look out for so that you have a good experience. |
