another good cleaner for windows: pour 1/2 cup sudsy ammonia, 1 pint rubbing alcohol and 1 tsp liquid dish soap into a gallon milk jug filled with cold water just to the top of the handle. shake it up, then pour into a spray bottle and you've got a super cheap window washer fluid for a fraction of the cost of store bought. |

Will they freeze in winter or is there something you can add to prevent? |

Can you actually use this formula in the windshield washer fluid container under your hood? I can see it might not work for the winter but how about during the summer? Anyone have a formula you can use during winter months? Smrtshpper's recipe might just work for the winter if it can be put into the washer fluid reservoir with the added pint of rubbing alcohol. |

ATTN: Jackie, I only use this recipe for hand washing the windows, never thought of using it to replace the windshield wiper fluid in the car. Will have to ask my husband!

Thanks Smrtshpper! Ask him and get back to me about it. I would be interested to know if he thinks it will work in the car! |

My husband said: "Windshield fluid is cheap and has ingredients that keep it from freezing, so you are better off buying a gallon of it than trying to make your own......." |

Windshield fluid costs $1 per gallon most of the time at auto supply stores - save your formulas for other cleaning and use the store fluid. It works summer and winter. |

I found the best cleaner for windows in a car is simply club soda. No recipe required. It works great and doesn't run the risk of damaging paint or the rubber seals found around car windows, which is a really important consideration. Of course, I use newspapers to wipe of. |

For my house windows, I found the greatest tip - can't remember where. Use plain water with corn starch in it, wash the windows with it, then dry. doesn't streak, will actually scrub (like in my kids' bathroom) works great for me.! |

Using your windshield wipers to remove grit, bugs, debri and washer chemicals is hard on rubber wipers. I get about 50% longer life out of them by folding a tiny strip of fine grit sand paper, holding it between my fingers and running it down the blades when they stop wiping well. It "sharpens" the rubber blades and keeps going strong. Use the free window cleaning products available where you gas up if possible. Duh! Free! |

Someone told me that if you have 2 sets of windshield wipers (lighter use ones for the summer months and heavy duty for the winter months)that it's supposed to prolong the life of both sets if you change them out accordingly. I haven't done it, but does anyone here understand the concept and done it themselves?
