Old Phones Make Great Toys
Submitted by: christyp 06/12/2009 10:29 AM
my mom keeps her old cell phones for the grandkids toys, she'll charge them up and show the grandkids how to play "music" (ringtones) on their phone. they love it and it keeps them away from my REAL cell phone.

Just be aware that 9-1-1 can be dialed from a de-activated cell phone. I am a 9-1-1/ Emergency Services dispatcher and we receive endless calls of babies/kids playing on cell phones that service has been disconnected from.
It is a waste of time and resources since every call has to be followed up on by a police officer.
PLEASE DO NOT LET CHILDREN PLAY WITH CELL PHONES, EVEN IF IT HAS NO SERVICE.

All you have to do is remove the sim card from the phone and they can't dial 911.. lol!

old remotes, landline phones, etc... are all fun too. I've even cut the cord off (and taped over the wires) of old curling irons for the kids to play with. No fun noises, but they love using things that are "real"
