Save Energy: Bake it with Potatoes

Submitted by: Arlene 123  06/24/2009 7:48 PM

I try really hard to bake more than one thing at a time in my oven. If I'm doing a casserole, I try to bake a same-temperature dessert at the same time.

But sometimes I have not planned well enough to have two prepared items to bake at the same time. So instead I foil wrap a significant amount of potatoes to bake at the same time as my pie, casserole or other compatible item.

I have no problem using up baked potatoes. They often go to work to be heated in the microwave with toppers. Or maybe I use then in hash browns for breakfast. They might go in a pot pie or potato salad.

My mom does the same thing. She always says there is no point in turning the oven on if you are only going to bake one thing. It stuck, now whenever I bake chicken, I always bake potatoes too.

Great tip! next time I'm baking something I'm going to throw in a batch of rosemary potatoes which I absolutely love.
