Cheap Alternatives to Hotels

1) Check out and compare prices on campground cabins such as KOA's. If packing a tent takes too much storage space in the vehicle, check out these cabins. You'll need sheets and covers (or sleeping bag, pillows and towels and a fan (most have heat but no AC). It's the easy way to camp!

2) Check into church camp/retreat facilities in the area you are traveling to. This tip is especially good for family reunions, but are sometimes available for one room for one night! Facilities can range from bunkhouse to nice cabins, but are usually cheap. Most have pools, and some even have fishing, hayrides etc. We once did this for a family reunion, we had private cabins with fireplaces and access to indoor pool, golf, hayride, and gymn. Even most meals were included in the small fee! Ask in advance how busy they will be and best time to come. Weekends and in summer months will be busier, book ahead.

3) Same thing for summer dorm rooms at universities. Many rent these during summer, spring break for very reasonable fees.

Also check out hostels. Last time I stayed in one it was $20 for the night. I went off season, so had the whole building to myself. Normally you would share a room with other people in a bunk situation. They also have kitchen and other facilities.
