Feeding the Family Good Food for Cheap

Submitted by: Gale Osborn  07/04/2009 9:57 PM

I'm not trying to advertise but I feel compelled to get the word out. I am the director of the Angel Food program at our church and I want all to know what great food you get for cheap.

A signature box is designed to feed four for a week for $30.00 If a family of four or five bought three or four boxes a month it would feed them with very little extra.

If you or any one you know is having a hard time please let them know about this program. Log on to wwwangelfoodministries.com and read all about it and find out who has it in your area.

Most of all if any of you can, the best gift you can give someone is the gift of food.On the contrary, I buy it myself. It is very good food and anyone can buy it. I save lots of money and give lots away to my kids and grandkids. We always have a freezer full. FYI

Thank so much! I think it's ok to advertise when it's something so helpful. Thanks again for posting, I wouldn't know about it otherwise and this will really help us out!

Thank you for reminding me about Angel Food. I had communicated with them a year ago about becoming a host site but they were not delivering as far north as we live...I went back on their website today and we now have three host sites within twenty miles that will allow me to participate as an individual or with our church as a host site.

I'll look on their site again. The only complaint I had about them a few years ago was that much of their meat (chicken, etc.) was already breaded and fried (to be warmed) and since I don't eat fried it was a waste. But yes, it does help many people who are not on a restricted diet and the host Church gets a little bit to help them out (electricity, etc). Those distributing were all volunteers.

The Angel Food meat is much more diverse now. I ask them about all the breading a couple of years ago and they told me they tried to give food that was filing and had ample calories. I've been doing this program for five years now and think it is wonderful. Many times I put my chicken in a bowl, let it sit for a few minutes and washed off the breading. My daughter would bake hers. People that need food don't mind the breading. We're not getting it breaded now and they also offer fruit and vegetable boxes. It is a good bargain and I'm blessed to be a part of the program.
