| LegalZoom Saves on Legal Services |

While not for all situations, for some legal matters you can save a lot of money by using the online legal service called LegalZoom.com. LegalZoom, started by, among others, Robert Shapiro of OJ Simpson legal fame, lets you handle a number of legal matters online using their self-service tools. Some of the areas they help with include:
- business formation (getting your business incorporated, forming an LLC, etc.)
- setting up wills and living trusts
- filing trademarks, patents, and copyrights
- handling divorces and name changes
- other legal matters, such as real estate documents and transactions
I have only used the service for forming a business, so I can’t speak to all of the other areas, but I can say that LegalZoom saved me hundreds of dollars by filing through them. The work I needed done was nothing complicated and really just a formality in terms of paperwork.
If you are lucky enough to know a lawyer personally, I suggest speaking with them first about your legal matter to see if what you need help with is something straightforward that can be handled by a self-service tool like LegalZoom.
I think there are other companies out there that provide similar services at low cost, but I cannot speak to them as I do not have any experience with them.
