Save on Gasoline
I own a Ford Edge. This is the first car I've owned that keeps track of the miles per gallon (MPG) right above the odometer.
For a long time I really didn't care that much about the MPG. It hovered around 17.3 - 17.4.
Then one day I got pulled over for a speeding ticket (which I'm fighting, btw, more on how to save money there in a minute). So I started driving more slowly and carefully.
Wouldn't you know it? The MPG slowly started to rise! Hey it was up to 17.5, then 17.6. Dang. I began to wonder just how high I could get it.
It's now up to 21.4! Can you believe that? I did some calculations in Excel and I figured that I'm saving over $500 in gasoline costs per year at this new MPG.
I drive just under 60 on the freeway, use the cruise control on the freeway, accelerate very carefully anywhere I am (unless it's more safe to accelerate quickly), and in general try to drive very carefully.
Save on Speeding Tickets
Ok so I mentioned the speeding ticket....
