Avoid High Sales Tax

Submitted by: Jennifer Thieme  07/16/2009 12:59 AM

Save on Sales Taxes

I live in a city that charges an additional 1% sales tax. This is on top of the county and state sales tax of 8.75%. So it's 9.75% in my city.

Luckily, I live on the border of another city that does not have the additional 1% tax rate. I try to shop there when I need to buy taxable items such as toiletries, office supplies, and so forth.

I do this too, I live in Mass and tax free NH is right next door. So I often do my shopping there. Mass. has been trying to figure out how to tax the goods that Mass residents buy in NH. Hopefully that day never comes!

EVEN THO WE DON'T LIKE SALES TAXES, IT'S ALWAYS BETTER TO SHOP IN YOUR OWN CITY, THE TAXES COLLECTED ARE USED TO IMPROVE THE CITY THAT YOU LIVE IN, SO WHEN YOU SHOP SOMEWHERE ELSE ALL YOUR ARE DOING IS IMPROVING THAT CITY'S RESOURSES.
JUST THOUGHT YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW.

You may not be paying sales tax but you still owe use tax, which is a law most states have to prevent this type of tax evasion, and they are actively seeking ways to track this, especially via online purchasing.
