Save $5 on Checked Bags on US Airways

Submitted by: Dis Gruntled  08/13/2009 1:02 PM

I flew US Airways the other day and before I left for the airport I checked online to see what the cost of checked luggage was, online it said $15 for the first bag and $25 for the second. So I made sure to squeeze everything in to one bag.

Then when I got to the counter they said it would be $20. I said that's not what the US Airways website said. And they said that price was online for people who checked in online. So there is a $5 surcharge for checking your bags in at the airport. I was tempted to step out of line and pull out my laptop to log on.

Just misleading on US Airways part not mentioning the increase in price for checking in at the airport. Also you get to board sooner if you check in on-line.

thanks for posting, it's certainly good to know that in advance.

I've noticed that more people are carrying on their luggage now to avoid the fees. I picked up the biggest bag I could that would fit in the overhead.

I think the website makes it more than clear that you save $5 by checking your bag online.

I don't think the web site made that clear and Dis Gruntled should have pulled out his laptop and saved himself the $5, although it was probably not worth the aggravation right then.

At least now we know.

I find this kind of thing happens when booking room reservations too. If I call the 800 number listed for, say,a Holiday Inn, they gave much a higher rate than I was quoted in an online ad and I got a much lower rate by calling the hotel I wanted to stay at directly.
