Free Homemade Bulletin Board

Submitted by: Felicia Mollohan  08/13/2009 3:54 PM

I needed a couple of small bulletin boards for our home for when my son started school in order to stay organized and I didn't have any money to buy any. So I searched around my house for materials that I already had. I used some heavy duty packing tape that I had from our last move and taped four of the same size boxes together as the base.

I had some old curtains (thick material) and my son's old shower curtain (thin material) that I had kept because the fabric was still really good - my mom always said, "Fabric is fabric". I cut the thick material and the thin material to fit around the boxes - with about 2 inches on each side so that it would wrap around to the back. I started with the thick material and taped it onto the boxes and continued with the thin material over the thick material. I used two nails and hammered them onto the wall.

The cardboard of the boxes works well with staples or push pins to keep your papers in place. I used 2 materials because I wanted the thin material on top, but the boxes would have shown through. I used the thick material as a backer. If you have thick material that you want shown, you would only need that.

Not a bulletin board...but similar idea. When our teenage son got a new bedroom and we needed something large to fill an expanse of white wall, we took a couple of pieces of large cardboard (appliance box size) and glued or taped them together...don't remember. He then went through his dirtbike/motorcycle magazines, cut out tons of pictures and made a giant collage. Could be used for any kind of theme. Just used nails to hang it up.
