Washer & Dryer Extended Warranties

Submitted by: frank  08/27/2009 8:55 AM

Consumer Reports found that most washer and dryers don't break during the extended warranty period and that any repairs that happen after the extended warranty period tend to the be the same cost as the warranty in the first place. So you are better off passing on the extended warranty option and just pay for the repairs when they need fixing.

We had an extended warranty. It took 10 days and at least as many phone calls (many times the wait on the phone was 30 mins. plus) to collect. It wasn't worth the run around

I let the warranty lapse on our washer and dryer and now I regret it. The set is only 5 yrs old and the service calls, labor and parts are outrageously expensive. We may have to replace the dryer because it will cost almost as much to have it repaired than to buy a new one. So keep this in mind.
