Trick to Tell if an Egg Has Gone Bad

Submitted by:  09/04/2009 10:20 AM

Unlike most food expiration dates, federally graded eggs are safe 3-5 weeks after their expiration date.

A little trick to see if your eggs are still fresh or not - fill small pan with water, if the eggs sink or bob around below the surface they are still good, if it floats sideways to the top, it's bad--don't eat it!

yes, if it floats throw it out! This happens because as an egg ages more air space increases which is what makes the egg buoyant. so older eggs rise to the top quickly. as long as the egg is still sumbmerged and is not bobbing to the top you should be okay.
