I've recommitted myself to be more disciplined about budgeting my money. I give myself a $200 weekly allowance in cash. This spending money is used to pay for groceries, gasoline, haircuts, clothes, vet bills, etc. I leave the rest of my money in my checking account to pay for utility bills, mortgage/rent, insurance, and the like.
Recently I began using a prepaid debt card. Instead of having to make a trip to the store, ATM, or bank to get the cash, I simply load the money directly onto the card using the website.
Now that I can see every transaction, I have been able to better monitor where all my money is going. I also have the safety of carrying plastic without it being a credit card.
Although I've always been good about budgeting, with this tool I'm able to really pinch the pennies even more.
The fees of prepaid debit cards vary greatly so be sure you read the fees associated with the card before choosing it! If you use the debit card wisely, you can avoid fees and make it work for you!
When the money is gone, it's gone. If your transaction exceeds the amount on the card, your card will not authorize the purchase. Perfect especially for people struggling with stay on course with their budget!
Best,
