Easy Microwave Cleaning

Submitted by: Shelley  10/15/2009 4:33 PM

Hi everyone,

I'm new to "Tip Hero", so I don't know if this has been posted before, so thought I'd take a chance and share it. :)

To get the cooked on food, etc., out of your microwave easily, place a microwave safe bowl inside with hot water and a teaspoon of lemon juice (the lemon juice is optional). Heat till it boils and let sit for about 5 minutes. Remove it and wipe your microwave clean. The steam makes the food loose for easy wiping. :)

I LOVE this idea!!! When I worked at Steak 'n Shake, this is how we got the exploded mushrooms and such out of the microwave.

Take a sponge and soak it with water put it in the Microwave for 2 minutes. The steam will help clean the microwave and it disinfects the sponge. So that you are able to use the sponge even longer!

Great tip and my kitchen smelled great (I hate cleaning the microwave out so I ran and tried it). I used lemon juice in a jar by the way.

I have used that method for years, helps to deodorize it too!

Be careful about microwaving water without something in it. It can virtually explode when you go to remove it and you can be horribly burned. My advice; use the sponge or definately do not skip adding the lemon juice.
