Homemade Swiffer Mop Pattern

Submitted by: Ray @ Tip Hero  11/09/2009 11:06 PM

Berlin over at Berlin's Whimsy has an excellent tutorial on creating a homemade swiffer mop cover. All you need is:

- Basic sewing supplies (machine, thread, scissors, iron, etc)
- 2 pieces of terrycloth material (eg. towels), at least 12 x 14” each
- 2 large and colorful buttons, or velcro
- Tracing paper

Berlin takes you through the process step by step and includes her pattern. Check it out.

I just used two microfiber cloths to make my own; I like them better than terry-cloth.

I do the same as above, microfiber seems to trap the dust better for me.

This may be a silly question but are these cloths washable?

So, do I dip it in a bucket of cleaning solution, wring it out and THEN put it on the swiffer. That seems like a mess to me. I like the idea, but it needs to be more convenient.

Ideas??

I fill up a spray bottle with the cleaning solution and spray ahead of where I am mopping. It works great.
