AAA Discounted Movie Tickets

Submitted by: anonymous  06/07/2008 2:03 PM

I have had a AAA membership (a membership to the AAA Automobile Club) for many years but didn’t know until just recently that you can get discounts on movie tickets. For example, you can buy a 4 pack of tickets to Showcase Cinemas for only $28 (normally, tickets to Showcase Cinemas run you $10.25 per adult ticket, so it’s a savings of $13). Plus, I noticed that when you order from movietickets.com, there’s a $1 service charge per ticket which I didn’t see with the AAA 4 pack, so you may be saving an additional $4, for a total savings of $17. Not bad for a night out at the movies – and think about all of the candy and popcorn you can buy with those savings!

There are discounts for other movie theater chains, so check AAA’s website (AAA.com) to see what’s available to you in your area.

Also, if you belong to any other affiliate-type of organizations, such as AARP, or are a student, look into special discounts. I’ve heard of discounts for both seniors and students, so use your “special status” to your advantage and save some money.

A curiosity question because my car insurance offers towing, so I haven't used AAA for a number of years, but last time I did the membership was about $100/year. I guess it would depend on how often you go to the movies if the discount on the tickets would offset the cost of the AAA annual membership fee? Just wondering.

Depends on what kind of membership you get. I think a basic individual membership, which is all you need to take advantage of discounted tickets, is $48/year.

I just checked online and the Primary Basic Membership is $52 plus a one time enrollment fee of $11. For additional members the cost is $28 on top of the $52. So not sure if it would be worth if for you for discounted movie tickets. unelss you go to the movies alot.

I live and Maine and my rates are a little bit lower. I pay $49, but get $3 back/year for for using automatic billing. so $46. And when I signed up they waived the 1 time sign up fee. I think there was a promotion at the time.
