| Inexpensive Carpet Shampoo |

For some time now I have been saving a lot of money on carpet shampoo by making my own using the powdered "oxygen" multipurpose cleaner purchased from the Dollar Tree. The directions are right on the back of the container. It only takes one scoop (provided in the tub of cleaner) dissolved in one gallon of hot water (dissolves better). I use a clean gallon milk jug and then pour it directly into my Bissell Proheat shampooer machine (purchased a few years ago, seriously on sale and with a coupon at Bed Bath & Beyond).
It does a super job (yes, we have pets & kids), leaves no residue (I always rinse twice with clean water afterward anyway) and no fragrance. It can be used in a spray bottle to pre-treat small spots and areas. It does not lift the color in my carpet, but I would suggest you do a spot test on yours beforehand to be sure.
Now I spend just a few pennies for an effective carpet cleaner, instead of untold amounts of $ on Bissell cleaner, for example. |
